Morgan's books are the best relationship books ever written - HIGHLY recommend.

I bought The Total Joy and The Total Woman by Marabel Morgan when they first came out back in the 1970's. We were married in the late 1960's and our marriage was great - but I wanted it to be even better than great and last through the ages and still be great at the end of our line. So early on, I started studying wholesome books with good advice about how to have a good marriage and make love last. This one and Total Woman were my all time favorites. Many women probably wouldn't want to take this advice today - but it's the best good sound biblical advice you're going to find anywhere. We've been married 48 years now and are both turning 70 soon - but we still have a very close and playful relationship and we live in each others hip pockets just like we did way back in the 1960's. I don't even know if there WAS amazon back in the 1970's - I bought my books back then at our local book store. But I HIGHLY recommend both of these books "The Total Woman" and "Total Joy" to anyone wanting to rekindle that spark or make love last through the ages. I now do my own writing about love, home and health and making love last at http://www.lovehomeandhealth.com and "I" talk about keeping love alive through the ages. ANYONE can have a half dozen relationships or marriages in their life time...but it takes two people willing to work at it - to make one marriage last a lifetime and still be good at the end. I've bought and given many of these books away through the years and I HIGHLY recommend them both! Because "The very best love stories just have no ending"

I read this book 35 years ago and did a lot of what it suggested. I am sure it would work today, but don't think very many young women will make the effort.

Just to note, I have only had the book ...

Just to note, I have only had the book for two days.
I wish I had this book earlier in my pastry career. Of all the books I have, the bread section on this book is probably the most extensive. The book goes over autolyse as well as when to add preferments when autolysing, a question I have had for a while. The most common breads have recipes that uses different preferments. Sadly, the book does not talk about using freshly ground flour in bread baking.

I wish there were more variations in some of the recipes in the book. For example, a few ways to flavor pastry cream and creme anglaise are mentioned, and measurements are given, but more creative flavorings are left out.

The book is the most extensive baking book I have seen, but it does not cover using fruit purees in pastry cream or using custard powder or flour for pastry cream.

The cakes in the book cover a few classics and a few idea, that to me, seem original.

The last baking book ill buy for a long time

This book is not for anybody who isn't truly trying find out why the nuts and bolts of baking are the nuts and bolts. It's intense, most of this book is pure information on the what and why of every component. It is a text book, so it's pretty robotic how the information is delivered, but just the section on mixing styles and why each is used is massive. This is definitely the last baking book I will buy for a long time. If your looking for quick and easy access recipes, this is not for you. The way the recipes are given is short hand. So if you don't read the section on mixing you will be forced to backtrack. So if your going to spend the money, make sure you put in the time this book requires before you jump into the recipes. Hope this review helps your choice!

Almost Perfect. But Is It Worth It For The "Home Baker"?

This book is written mostly for "the trade", but the home-chef (like me) can get a lot out of it. Apart from Bread and Pastry, it has extensive chapters on cakes, icings, cookies, chocolate(confection), ice-cream and quick breads (banana bread, scones, muffins) amongst other things. It is very comprehensive. The science can be understood by almost everyone, and the book is well illustrated (pictures of how to shape a baguette, etc). There are no "stories" from the author about how he first made this and that, and learnt this from there - and so forth. It reads like a school book. Very informative!

I was at first worried that this book had 1000's of recipes, but it says on the back that it has just under 300, which means there is a lot of theory in it (which I think is good). I has 2 Pannetone recipes and about 4 Croissant recipes. It has sachertorte, and black forest gateu, chocolate truffles and loads of other stuff. The carrot cake recipe is the best I've ever tried, and I've ended up using ALL the sections in the book (except for the ice-cream chapter), even though I only bought it for the Bread/Pastry initially.

For me there is one problem: I don't have a Mixer. That makes it hard to to follow the bread formulas (recipes) 100% accurately. There is enough science in the book, that you might find a "do-it-yourself" way if you experiment (at least I hope so).

In each bread formula in the book the author will specify what type of mix method to use: Short, Improved or Intensive (which basically is the 3 diffent speeds of the mixer kneading the dough).
- "Shortmix" is almost like kneading by hand, however quite few recipes call for a short mix.
- "Improvedmix" one can almost replicate by hand (but one might need to experiment with longer fermentation times and yeast amount to compensate and get a stronger dough).
- However I am more sceptical about for instance Pannetone and Brioche which call for an "Intesivemix", which is difficult by hand. Luckily there are quite few recipes that call for this mix method. Only bread with a lot of butter/sugar/eggs. But there is a "handmix" recipe for croissants.

When it comes to Ovens there is no discussion on how to compensate for lack of steam (the book is as I say, written for the apprentice/prof. in mind).

One last thing: I've had no problems with quantities in the recipes, because he always gives a so-called "test" amount (in OZ). But you can also divide the grams and kg. by 5 to get the right "home" batch if you use the metric system (I live in Norway, so i do).

Conclusion: I would recommend this book to the home-chef, but be prepared for a challenge :)

Good basic info

We used this in Ushuaia. Good basic info, but the restaurants and museums were way off. The food in their recommended restaurants was poor, and the museums they recommended were way less interesting than other options. That being said - there aren't a ton of great Pategonia guidebooks out there, this one is recent, and most of their other information is solid. Still worth it if you are going.

Instead of buing this trash you can better take anything from
the rubbish heap. If you even look at anything from the "author" mohammad
tarek ouda you will immediatly start to wormit and will do so for
at least a week. That happend to me.

Demystifies Digital Computer Internals. Simply. Clearly.

After hearing about digital computers while in high school (this was mid 80s), I was extremely curious about understanding how these so called 'computers' work. The idea that they can make decisions, remember things etc. was simply fascinating. General popular science articles weren't clear enough to give the complete picture.

I was lucky to find a copy of this book in my school library. I took home this book, and simply read the book through the night. and what an experience it was!.

It builds on absolutely fundamental concepts, logical components, simple logic gates, the mysterious flip-flop, the universal gate, the ROM, and then on to the stored program computer.. the register, program counter, Arithmetic, Logic Unit, The Instruction Decoder. my..my. In such simple terms. and then on to,in fact, build a commercial microprocessor of the age, step by step.

One of those rare , simple elegant books, that can get you started and then hook us on to the subject.

Absolutely relevent today as well. since we still fundamentally use the same architecture, believe it or not.

Excellent Book On Bits, Bytes, Binary, Gates and Logic Design

Malvino has a way with words and manages to simplify many aspects of low level digital electronics. I'm about half-way through the book and already cherish it for its very thorough explanations, starting from the simplest aspects (bits) and working towards more sophisticated elements of circuit design (truth tables with Karnaugh Maps). Along the way you'll take in many lessons on Boolean algebra and simplification techniques (don't let this scare you away - it's really not bad at all).

While the book is definitely old, it's still very relevant, even with all of the improvements to computers over the last few decades. About the only possible complaint I could have at this point in the book is that some of the chapter review questions seem a bit tedious, particularly since we only have half the answers in the back so it's questionable whether those problems are worth doing since you can't confirm whether you correctly understand the material. That aside, there's lots of questions (with answers) along the way within the actual chapter content, so you still have lots of chances to confirm your understanding.

Bottom line, the book is a classic, the writing style is very easy to read, the quality of what it conveys is all-encompassing, and you'd be hard-pressed to find anything better on the subject. A must have for your electronics library.

The book is a one-stop reference on the research activities and known results of normal ordering and Stirling numbers. It discusses the Stirling numbers, closely related generalizations, and their role as normal ordering coefficients in the Weyl algebra. The book also considers several relatives of this algebra, all of which are special cases of the algebra in which UV - qVU = hVs holds true. The authors describe combinatorial aspects of these algebras and the normal ordering process in them. In particular, they define associated generalized Stirling numbers as normal ordering coefficients in analogy to the classical Stirling numbers. In addition to the combinatorial aspects, the book presents the relation to operational calculus, describes the physical motivation for ordering words in the Weyl algebra arising from quantum theory, and covers some physical applications.

About the Author

Toufik Mansour is a professor at the University of Haifa. His research interests include enumerative combinatorics and discrete mathematics and its applications. He has authored or co-authored numerous papers in these areas, many of them concerning the enumeration of normal ordering. He earned a PhD in mathematics from the University of Haifa.

Matthias Schork is a member of the IT department at Deutsche Bahn, the largest German railway company. His research interests include mathematical physics as well as discrete mathematics and its applications to physics. He has authored or coauthored many papers focusing on Stirling numbers and normal ordering and its ramifications. He earned a PhD in mathematics from the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University of Frankfurt.

This is a masterpiece blending very elegant combinatorics that is very important in physics and abstract algebra.
The mathematics is deep, the exposition very engaging, and the historical narrative very insightful.

About the Author
Michael A. Seeds has been Professor of Physics and Astronomy at Franklin and Marshall (F&M) College in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, since 1970. In 1989, he received F&M College's Lindback Award for Distinguished Teaching. Seeds' love for the history of astronomy led him to create upper-level courses on Archaeoastronomy and Changing Concepts of the Universe. His research interests focus on variable stars and the automation of astronomical telescopes. Mike is coauthor with Dana Backman and Michele Montgomery of HORIZONS HYBRID: EXPLORING THE UNIVERSE, Thirteenth Edition, and UNIVERSE HYBRID: SOLAR SYSTEM, STARS AND GALAXIES, Eighth Edition, both published by Cengage Learning. He was Senior Consultant in the creation of the twenty-six-episode telecourse accompanying the book HORIZONS: EXPLORING THE UNIVERSE, Twelfth Edition.

Dana Backman works for the SETI Institute of Mountain View, California, as director of outreach for the SOFIA (Stratospheric Observatory for Infrared Astronomy) mission at NASA's Ames Research Center. He also teaches introductory astronomy, astrobiology, and cosmology courses in Stanford University's Continuing Studies Program. From 1991 to 2003, he taught in the physics and astronomy department at Franklin and Marshall College in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, where he invented and taught a Life in the Universe course in the interdisciplinary Foundations program. Dr. Backman's research interests focus on infrared observations of planet formation, models of debris disks around nearby stars, and evolution of the solar system's Kuiper Belt. With Mike Seeds, he also coauthored HORIZONS: EXPLORING THE UNIVERSE, Twelfth Edition (2012); UNIVERSE: SOLAR SYSTEMS, STARS, AND GALAXIES, Seventh Edition (2012); and FOUNDATIONS OF ASTRONOMY (2013), all published by Cengage Learning. Dr. Backman earned his bachelor's degree from Massachusetts Institute of Technology and his doctorate from the University of Hawai'i.

Very Disappointed

i was very displeased with my purchase. I had waited 3 weeks for my $180 purchase, falling behind on my studies because it was taking too long to get to me. When it had finally arrived it was not even a real book. It was the pages with hole punches punched through them. I was very disappointed. Would not recommend.
